If you don't want to use this Java Chat applet, but a real program with more features, I recommend you to download such an IRC client (program) as mIRC. The only options you need to change there are the server settings, which have to be set to:
Server: irc.centralchat.net
Port: 6667
Room: #caverns-of-hope
