On the V6, the coil is in the
distributor, and was impossible to simply upgrade the coil without
replacing the whole distributor. Plus, no one makes a performance
distributor anyway, so there is no simple upgrade.
This modification also works if your coil goes bad, so you don't have
to replace the whole distributor.
The Distributor cap will need to be
modified like so:
You can buy a
special tip that will protrude from the cap and connect to the coil
wire. The
tip is essentially just a screw with a rounded brass nut and a long
plastic
washer, you could possibly find what you need at a hardware store if
you knew
what you are looking for.
It can also be tapped into the CENTER as I have seen on some if the
modified caps. I think you need to cut a portion of the battery
tray to get it to fit in tapped in that area. If tapped into the
center, I do not think anything is done to the battery tray.
You should use MSD Blaster III Coil, and tap into the
signal/trigger wire from the harness to the distributor.
First, as always, you need a place to mount the coil. Then
run the POWER and GROUND wires to power the coil.
As soon as I can get some better, or more detailed instructions for an
install, they'll be here. Can
this work for the I4 avenger?
Not cost effectively, MSD makes OE replacement coil packs anyway. . .
