This is 100% illegal, so do it at your own risk, and I am not responsible for your getting caught!
Pros: Low emissions, improved engine performance.
Cons: (With PVC) Sucks vapors, and small amounts of oil into
the intake.
Yes, that's right, another source for carbon in the intake. The engine is sucking those unburned blow-by gases and the small amount of oil back into the intake to be reburned. This coats and fouls your throttle body faster as well as the spark plugs and your intake plenum. Just like the EGR, this isn't all that great for the engine. Why not get rid of it between inspections.
You'll need 2 breather filters (PepBoys, Advance Auto, Bla bla bla), and about two feet of vacuum hose (pick a color) and four hose clamps.
1) Pull off the hose to the PVC, and to the intake tube that goes
into
the TB Unit.
2) Run a hose from the plenum where the OE pcv hose went, directly
to the intake tube and clamp it down on both ends.
3) Use a clamp and put one filter on the rear valve cover (i moved
the hose going to the throttle body to securely hold it for
a little insurance)
4) Use a clamp and put the other filter on the PCV.
Now, you can hollow out the PCV Valve, which I recommend, otherwise nothing will come out of the front breather due to the lack of vacuum needed to open the PCV. The Deutsch PCV for our car is model PCV177 (or buy another type). I believe the OE PCV is all one piece, and can't be taken apart. The replacements are cheap enough to buy, and modify. To hollow the PCV, you simply put it in a vise and pull it apart. Dump the guts and use a good glue capable of high temperatures and slap it in.
I tried this, and the main problem here is, WAS, you will get vapors
in the car! Yeah,
I did this, and I smell the engine vapors in the car when I use the
heat
or A/C now. I will convert back t stock in the winter. If
anyone
has any ideas on how to stop the vapors from getting inside, let me
know
(besides changing the control on the dash to recirculated air).
See the two BLUE breathers: One on the right under the Throttle
Body,
and the other right on the Valve cover in front.
You
can do this anyway you want, either way will produce the same
results.
Also, see the rerouted hose from the Intake tube, to where the original
PCV hose went. This keeps the "circuit" closed basically.
