Go for refuge to Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha.

Through the virtues I collect by giving and other perfections,

May I become a Buddha for the benefit of all.

From this time forth until I become a Buddha,

I shall keep even at the cost of my life

A mind wishing to attain complete enlightenment

To free all living beings from the fears of samsara and solitary peace.

O Gurus, Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas

Please listen to what I now say.

Just as all the previous Sugatas

Generated the mind of enlightenment

And accomplished all the stages

of the Bodhisatva training,

So will I too for the sake of all beings

Generate the mind of enlightenment

And accomplish all the stages

Of the Bodhisattva training.

Now my life has borne great fruit,

My human life has attained great meaning;

Today I am born into the lineage of Buddha

And have become a Bodhisattva.

All my actions from now on

Shall accord with this noble lineage;

And upon this lineage, pure and faultless,

I shall never bring disgrace.
