INTRODUCTION

Small tutorial on how to make use of multi-skins in you level. It helps you assign different skins to existing decorations to make them look different and how multi-skins work.

MAKING A BOT (SOLDIER) DECORATION

Lets see how to put a fully skinned bot into your level - you cant do that normally so here's how you do it:

  • Loacate the following selected item and place it in your level:-

/me love putting images in tutorials so see me ..... in court where else :p.
  • Hmmm...... hey you ugly dude u look like someone I know:-

A horse that is ;). We got to change that pronto.
  • Double click the TMale1Bot and go to its properties. Now expand display and you'll find the things you need to change there :-

/Holy Shit a sensational discovery has been made :p. More attempts at pathetic humor ignore this part, bangs head against wall to make himself stop :).
  • Now fire up the texture browser and load up the skin package that you want to use. eg:commandoskins.utx. All the textures will be conveniently named for you. All you have to do is press the use button against the selected multi-skin part. e.g.: cmdo1 must be put in the MultiSkins Slot [0], cmdo2 in MultiSkins Slot [1]. MultiSkins do exactly that assigns skins to multiple areas of a mesh. Slot [0] for one part Slot [1] for the next part and so on. Ok now all you got to do is set the MULTISKINS (note that I mention specifically multiskins and not SKIN).
  • The coolest step yet!!!!!!!!. Now do that one two three thingy and see what you get.

/me refuses to stop proving a point :). Slot [0] assigns a skin in this case to the hands and leaves the other parts unskinned.

  • Ok the full skinned model is here to rock:-

"What the hell u starin' at, if looks could kill you'd be dead by now"
(sheepish grin :) the skin is actually from one of my all time fav UT mods AgentX. Click here to go to their official site (defunct now I think).

GENERAL NOTES

  • See the list below:-

Every model needs to be given like a different set of multi skins. If you try to like apply the male commandos skins on the TFemale1Bot you'll naturally get weird stuff since the skin doesn't account for the ......... um ......... puppies ;). If you want a skinned Xan in the level you need to use the TBossBot, the commandos skin the TMale1Bot and the soldier skins the TMale2Bot and so on.

  • The bots>human bot refers to the Unreal1 multi-player player models and uses only one skin - unlike the UT models.

  • On playing the level the above mentioned stuff will attack you with the intent to kill (naturally :). If what you are actually looking for is a 'dead as a door knob" decoration style skinned bot you need to use the carcass of that specific bot which are conveniently named just like the animated AI bots.

Hmmm.... what u guys doing paragliding :p ?.

  • You'll find nearly all the skins for the Unreal 1 player models and all the skins of all the decorations (UT and unreal 1) under the Unreall.utx>skins package.

CHANGING DEFAULT DECORATION SKINS

A brief mention of this will do. All decorations except for the above mentioned carcass use only one skin. Besides this in the multi-skins (most of the time :) they make use of only Slot [1]. In the above paragliding [?:)] picture the slot that uses the soldierskins.blkt2 texture. So if you wanted to change the skin of the default barrel provided under decorations you just select a nice board texture and put it in multi-skin slot [0] or for the monk statue use slot [1].

Well there's nothing more to say. This concludes another tutorial. If you have any doubts email me here : cool_machismo@yahoo.com. Peace To All :).
