COOL CUSTOM TEXTURE EFFECTS

INTRODUCTION

I'm just gonna show you how to take a base existing texture and apply texture effects to it like ripples.

NOW YOU KNOW............

  1. First off, in the texture browser hit File > New... and in the dialog box that opens enter the following :-

It helps to know the width x height of the original base texture that you are using. In this case the dimensions of GenIn > Deco > Rotwood2 texture is 64x128 - this is the texture that I want to change.

  2. It defaults to an empty texture like this :-

You need to assign a source texture under water paint (in this case).

  3. Expand water paint and select the desired texture (Rotwood from GenIn.utx in my case) and hit the use button in the source texture field.

  4. Now hold down the left mouse button and drag it on the image previewed on the left in the desired way that you want the effects to appear. Paint on the picture actually. Now you should have something like this :-

  5. Ok as you would have noticed its way too big. Play around with the settings till you get the desired effects. Mine were like this :-

Notice the difference between this one and the previous one. Now it looks a little more realistic.

  6. Save it and you are ready to go.

WHAT DO ALL THOSE OTHER FX AND TEX TYPES DO?

It would be redundant to discuss that topic here. You can read the Unreal A.R.T (Animating Realtime Textures) tutorial by Epic Games Erik De Neve on the Unreal Tech Page here :-

CREDITS:- Thanks goes out to the people on the Planet Unreal forums who pointed this out. That's the end of this one. Email me if you have any questions :). Ciao.
