This was my first weekend out with Rob and Terry, and my first full weekend in my own apartment which is good, because I wouldn't have liked stumbling back to Mrs Kwon's house drunk. We were at James' friend's Beer Bar, which will soon have moved (look for new photos of the place). Korean society involves a lot of drinking. So-Ju is the the usual poison. It's 20% alcohol, but you drink 2 ounces at a time so it all works out. It's dirt cheap, $1 a bottle at a store and $3.50 a bottle at a restaurant, so it's very easy and very common to go through a lot of it in a meal, or at least from what I've seen it is.

This is pre-So-Ju. We just arrived at the restaurant. Koreans always have food when they are drinking which basically eliminates hangovers. In the middle of the table is a very spicy pork dish, made special for us by the owner. The owners likes us a lot, so we get special treatment. I don't think we even pay.

This is a couple hours into drinking. On the left is Terry. In the grey/green is one of the owners of the restaurant, and at the far right is Sex-Machine. His name is Sim-Que-Nam, I haven't heard a good story of where the nickname came from, I don't think there is one.

Just a picture of us doing a shot of So-Ju. I don't know if I was just coming back from the bathroom or talking to somebody, but I do remember people calling me for a shot and answering that call. |
