| Being the good son that I am, I have helped my father build his greatest achievement, the Garage Mahal. I have not only helped build with my own two hands, I have also enlisted the aid of my most able, and not so able bodied friends. It is a massive structure, of three vehicle bays, room at the front for a sizable workshop, and an apartment over top with kitchen, bathroom, living room, and sleeping area. This all sits over-looking beautiful Lake Anna. Following are some pictures. | ||

It is 26' x 36'. The 2nd floor has an 8'x8' kitchen, 8'x8' bath and 15'x27' main loft area with a 7'x7' inglenook (window with benches on 3 sides) and 2 storage areas of about 12'x10' where the roof slopes down to the floor. Walls are 2x6 material with R-19 insulation in the walls and R-30 in the ceiling. All sheathing is plywood and the siding is pressure treated cedar shingles. All trim is also cedar. The concrete foundation has a layer of "river rock" made of concrete and mortared in place. The garage has 200 amp service and is wired for cable and telephone both floors. |
