Why the Restored
Church? Restored Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints PERHAPS the question should be why not
RESTORED? First of all, it is well known that the Reoriganized
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints began to enter a period of rapid
change around fifty years ago and that change continues to do this very day. Thus, it proved necessary for the Seventy to
act. Thus, a group of about fifty seventy began
meeting in 1992 and they then called themselves the Restored Seventy and was
under the direction of Benjamin O. Larson who later would become the first
prophet/president of the Restored Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints. I guess it first of all should be noted that
many people believe that we are "Mormon" and they also assume that
because of our name, we have broken from the Mormon Church. Neither of these
assumptions are true. First, we are not
"Mormon" and second, we are not nor ever have been of the Mormon
Church. We have left the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day as
is explained further on this website. President Larson and others felt that it was
time for the Seventy to act in their official role as the Doctrine and
Covenants reveal to lead the Church back on course and to call the Church
back to order. But because the Church had already by then become so far
removed from the way it had been created, it was clear that the only solution
would to become the Church that Jesus Christ wanted for us to become. Later, the second prophet/president, David
Olsen had said that "our commission should always be to declare that
this Church is satisfactory only when it is based upon all that has been
revealed and those things never are to be changed or tampored
with." Yet this is what the RLDS did do. They began
changing doctrines and many other areas which totally brought the Reorganized
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints into complete apostasy. Some of
those things include: --Redefining Zion, repudiating God's unchangeability, revising scriptures, refusing latter day
scripture, re-examining the role of the Church, rejecting the apostasy,
reinterpreting prophecy, readjusting moral and Christian ethical values,
revising priesthood, regulating priesthood, rejecting closed communion, and
rewording the communion prayers. All of these things we viewed constituted the
beginning of apostasy. Thus, it became needful that the Seventy begin to take
appropriate action. Christ himself had warned that there would be
those who would seek to change the gospel as He had originally taught and he
so he said that they would be "ravening wolves" (Matt. 7:24) and
that some would be teaching the "doctrines and commandments of
men"(Matt. 15:8), instead of what he had personally taught. The apostles
further also repeated those warnings with Peter telling that "There
shall be false teachers among you who privily shall
bring in abominable heresies" (2 Peter 2:1). Jude had said that some men
who, after creeping in unawares, would turn "the grace of our God into lasiviousness"(Jude 1:4). Paul also had warned that
"some that trouble you, and would pervert he gospel of Christ"(Gal.
1:7) and adominished us that "If any many
preach any other gospel unto than that ye have received, let him be
accursed."(Gal. 1:9) Thus, just as those early Christians were
entering apostasy, we also have seen the same things again in our day. It is often
said that history repeats itself. Clearly here, we have seen history again
repeating itself. Tertullian had written about 210 A.D. that any
tent or practice which was not rooted upon what Jesus had taught is clearly
false and thus he wrote that "All doctrine must be prejudged as false
which savours of cf contrrariety to the truth of the churches and apostles of
Christ and of God"(Chapter 23). He further then concluded that the Rule
of Faith had helped combat the spread of heresies which would creep in. So then, if Jesus is indeed God's divine Son,
then it is obvious that he was the perfect instructor and that we would do
well to heed to all that Christ had instituted into the very Church of which
bears the name of Christ. In like manner, if Joseph Smith has indeed
restored the very gospel of Jesus Christ as was taught by him and the first
apostles, and if his divinely appointed successor, Joseph Smith III had
further instituted those very doctrines within the Reorganized Church, then
it means that any changes to those teachings and constitution of the church
as was restored and reorganized is a clear departure from the very faith.
Joseph III had thus stated that "If in the history of any church,
anything out of harmony with or antagonistic to that constitution is
introduced, or a change is sought to be made in the creed and government,
which his opposed and rested, or denied by any of the members of the church,
that portion of the membership that remains in adherence to the faith as it
was before the change was attempted or made is the church."(The
Rejection of the Church), 5-6). Thus, today, there was the need to bring the
membership that wanted to be adherent to the truths as they were before the
changes began into one fold and to help them to become the "Church of
Jesus Christ" that they once where. Thus, President Larson, who's ancestory is on his father's side back to Joseph Smith,
Jr., and further, President Larson's grandson, David Olsen where truly
commanded to make sure that this work was to be carried forth in its
truthfulness and true light. When I had received my calling to be the next
prophet/president from Brother Olsen's hand when he named me the successor,
it was because of my lineage. Truly the Church has again been Reauthorized
by the hand of Jesus Christ through the Seventy who sought to bring the
Church back into order. While there are many others who have also sought the
same, they have failed in the completeness because they have not the
authority and some of them are doing just the same as was done in the RLDS. It is our sincere prayer that after reading
this, you desire more, then continue to check back at this website as we will
continue to add more to this information for you to learn the truths of which
are found within the Reauthorization. ©2009
