"If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing."--Malcolm X
"We are faced with a kind of Pascal's Wager: Assume the worst and it will surely arrive. Commit oneself to the struggle for freedom and justice and its course may be advanced."--Noam Chomsky
who we are and why:
We are a coalition of independent creative persons refusing to be "reigned in" by the norms of "pragmatic" ideological management of communication in all it's forms. We recognize the danger of artists being controlled/corralled/managed/bridled by any formal mediation, such as media owners, editors, and ideologically-challenged vanguardists. Thus, we are "unbridled" and autonomous, wishing to educate ourselves about our art subjects, even at the expense of so-called "Moderate", "Left" or "Right-wing" "political strategy".
We see that most art, including artists doing political cartoons, are *tooled* in many ways by existing *meta* games--that is, the situation going on behind the scenes of why different groups choose the methods they do in order to "inform" or agitate. This is what propaganda is all about, and why propaganda has such a negative connotation; it is manipulation going on behind the scenes, either consciously or as a result of what Noam Chomsky has identified as an *internalized values* system.
Creative people interested in joining (informally) with us may contact us at the email address below. Show us your art (in any medium), and we will consider linking your site, or putting your art up at ours.
Here is some of the art that we have been putting out wherever *free publishing* is possible online. So far, only the Independent Media Centers of the world have allowed such a beautiful potential, but we'd love to hear of more.
