One of the most successful home accessories is the roll-up style garage door. They are now sold in a variety of finishes to harmonise with any architectural style- and are suitable for use on single and double garages, multiple openings and square, arched or unusually shaped openings.

Installation:
Roll-up garage doors are normally installed behind the opening and can be fixed directly to brickwork, usually without timber jambs.

The opening should have:

• Sufficient return on each side for the supporting brackets plus necessary working clearances.

• 380mm (15") headroom. Normally, when the door is fully open the height of the door is reduced by about 65mm (2½”). If headroom is 280mm (11”) or more the door can be installed so it protrudes further into the opening. If headroom is below 280mm a false head or lintel should protect the door.

Doorway piers, stiles or posts should continue up past the lintel so supporting brackets can be fixed.

The lintel should ideally be built flush with, or slightly forward from the stiles to avoid a large gap between door and lintel while leaving enough room to prevent the door rubbing the back of the lintel.

Multiple openings.
Any opening over 3000mm (10ft) wide can have multiple roll-up doors installed with a mullion or centre post that is removable when door is opened. This looks clean and uncluttered and allows unrestricted access across the full width of the opening when mullion is removed.

Many coloured and timber-look finishes are available but, if required, the doors can be supplied in a zinc coated steel finish ready to paint. Zinc coated doors should be painted immediately, following painting instructions usually supplied with the door.

Weather-stripping.
To keep out dirt and weather, special weather-stripping can be supplied as an option. Usually consisting of a special durable plastic cushion, the strip compresses and seals door when closed.
