Oil filled heaters are electric heaters filled with oil which is heated by an element in the bottom of the unit. As the heated oil rises, it is replaced by cool oil. When the oil or the air around the unit reaches a pre-set temperature, a thermostat in the unit operates to maintain the desired temperature.

Because the oil in the unit is a heated, not burned, oil filled heater never need refilling. Most types simply plug into a power outlet and switch on. The thermostat senses the air temperature in the room and switches the power to the elements on or off to maintain the set temperature. You can raise or lower the temperature in the room by adjusting the thermostat to a new setting.

Because the units are thermostatically controlled, they are economical to operate. And since there are no exposed elements, there is very little chance of burns.

Thermostat - since this heater operates by sensing the temperature of the air around it, make sure the air can circulate freely. Never hang clothes over the unit as they could prevent the thermostat from working and the clothes could be damaged. Some heaters feature a safety cut-out mechanism, which prevents such overheating risk.

Time Control - some units have a time control that allows you to preset the time that you require the heater to turn on. For instance, if you plan to rise at 7 a.m., pre-set the timer control for the heater to turn on at 6 a.m. This allows you to wake up to comfortable warmth. Then set your thermostat to maintain the level of warmth required.
