Benjamin's Syndrome is a congenital intersex condition. In other words, it is a medical problem that develops before birth, involving the differentiation between male and female. Unlike most intersex conditions, the effects of Benjamin's Syndrome are not physically obvious (although physical symptoms may occasionally be present to some extent). Instead, Benjamin's Syndrome occurs when the brain develops as one sex, and the body as the other. The condition is also known by a number of other names, the most common being transsexuality.
A major revision of the layout of the site was planned for the near future a long time ago, but hasn't quite happened yet, though a cosmetic revamp has been completed. For the time being, the site is divided in to sections on the nature of the condition, general information for people who suffer from the condition, medical information specific to men and women respectively, and a section containing New Zealand specific information such as legal issues.
